About our organization

The Swedish Sports Organization for the Disabled and The Swedish Paralympic Committee (SHIF/SPK) is a sports organization which organizes sports for people with locomotor disabilities, visual impairments or intellectual disabilities within 18 different sports.

The organization was founded in 1969 and at that time also became  member No 50 of The Swedish Sports Confederation (RF). We have approximately 480 sport clubs, 21 regions and out of about 37 000 members 20 000 are sportactive.

SHIF/SPK has four expressed roles:

  1. A Sports Federation (SF) with responsibility for the daily activity within SHIF/SPK:s framework.
  2. Similar to a Sports Confederation with 18 sports and cooperation with another 15 SF which have sports for people with disabilities integrated in the work of the own association.
  3. The Swedish Paralympic Committee which is responsible for the paralympic sport, this also includes sports organized in eight other SF.
  4. Responsible for and the leader of the Special Olympics function in Sweden.
